What is a New York trading VPS?
A New York trading VPS is a Windows VPS hosted in Equinix NY4 in Secaucus, NJ — universally referred to as just "NY4". NY4 is the dominant North American financial-services data center: NYSE, Nasdaq, IEX, BATS, and essentially every major forex ECN broker has their matching engine or gateway co-located there.
A NY4 PropVPS instance routes orders to any of those venues in under 300 microseconds. Compared to a home connection from anywhere in North America (typically 20–60ms to the broker), that is a 99% reduction in network-induced slippage.
Why NY4 dominates North American forex
Every major North American ECN broker keeps their order gateway in NY4: IC Markets, Pepperstone, FXCM, OANDA US, FOREX.com, Interactive Brokers (forex), Saxo Bank, Tickmill, Vantage. Top-of-book liquidity for EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, and gold trades through NY4 first — the rest of the world quotes against it.
For a US-resident or Canadian forex trader, NY4 is the default VPS location. Latency to your broker drops from ~40ms to under 1ms; slippage drops in lockstep. For prop firm traders on FTMO, FundedNext, FunderPro, or The5%ers using a North American broker, the choice is also NY4.
