What is an MT4 VPS?
An MT4 VPS is a Virtual Private Server with Windows Server 2022 and MetaTrader 4 pre-installed, hosted in a Tier-4 datacenter directly cross-connected to your broker. The defining feature is locality: when MT4 lives in the same Equinix building as your broker’s gateway, an order ticket leaves your terminal and reaches the broker matching engine in well under one millisecond.
MT4 is still the dominant retail forex platform in 2026 despite being officially deprecated by MetaQuotes in 2019. The reason is the EA ecosystem — every commercial forex EA, every prop firm’s evaluation rule set, and every signal provider tool is built for MT4 first. Hosting MT4 on a purpose-built VPS rather than a generic cloud instance is what makes that ecosystem actually work in production.
Why MT4 traders need a dedicated VPS
MT4 is single-threaded per terminal — every chart, every EA, every alert runs on one CPU core. On a home computer that core competes with browsers, video calls, OS background tasks, and Windows updates. On a generic cloud VPS that core is shared with other tenants and gets throttled when they spike. Only a dedicated-core VPS gives MT4 a CPU it can fully control.
A dedicated MT4 VPS also fixes the entire class of home-network failures: ISP DNS issues, modem reboots, Wi-Fi packet loss, power cuts. None of these exist in a Tier-4 datacenter with dual ISPs and N+1 power. For a prop firm trader running a funded account on MT4, the difference between a home setup and a VPS is the difference between losing the account to a modem reboot during NFP and not.
PropVPS MT4 VPS specifications
Every PropVPS MT4 plan runs on Intel Xeon E-2388G dedicated cores (3.2 GHz base, 5.1 GHz turbo), with strict per-tenant core allocation — no oversubscription. Memory is ECC DDR4. Storage is NVMe SSD at 3,500 MB/s sequential read, which matters for MT4’s constant journal writes when running multiple EAs.
The OS image is Windows Server 2022 with telemetry disabled, automatic-restart suppressed (so a Windows patch never closes an open trade), RDP hardened, and MT4 pre-installed alongside the .NET / VC++ runtimes that some commercial EAs require. The same image powers every plan tier — what changes between Challenger and Syndicate is the number of cores and amount of memory allocated.
MT4 VPS for FTMO, FundedNext, and forex prop firms
FTMO, FundedNext, FunderPro, The5%ers, MyForexFunds-style firms, and most forex prop firms run MetaTrader 4 evaluations. All of them permit VPS hosting. All of them require one trader, one IP — never a shared NAT pool. PropVPS assigns a unique static IPv4 per instance so a single MT4 VPS can host a funded account through evaluation, verification, and live trading without ever changing identity to the broker.
The right datacenter depends on the broker, not on the prop firm. FTMO’s preferred liquidity providers (Purple Trading, Liquidity Connect) bridge to Equinix LD4 in London; LD4 hosting yields sub-0.5ms broker round-trip. FundedNext routes through brokers in LD4 and NY4 depending on instrument. PropVPS publishes per-broker latency benchmarks on each location page so you can pick deterministically.
Running multiple MT4 accounts on one VPS
MetaTrader 4 supports multiple installations on the same Windows machine — each MT4 instance has its own data folder, terminal.exe, and broker server list. PropVPS instances run as many MT4 installations as your plan’s resources allow. As a rule of thumb each MT4 terminal idle consumes 100–150MB RAM and minimal CPU; adding a busy EA pushes that to 300–600MB and ~5–15% of one core during peak tick rate.
On the Challenger plan (4 cores / 4GB) you comfortably run 4–6 MT4 instances. Algo Scalper (8 cores / 8GB) handles 12–15 instances. Portfolio Node (12 cores / 12GB) supports 25+. For copy-trading and signal-provider workloads with 30+ mirror accounts, Syndicate (16 cores / 16GB) is the right floor.
MT4 VPS pricing
PropVPS MT4 plans start at $136/mo (Challenger — 4 dedicated cores, 4GB ECC, 50GB NVMe, dedicated IPv4). Annual billing reduces effective monthly cost by 30%; quarterly by 15%. The 7-day money-back guarantee applies to all MT4 plans.
Cheaper "MT4 VPS" offerings exist at $5–15/mo — they typically run shared cores on commodity hardware in non-financial datacenters with no broker proximity. They are not viable for live forex trading; we publish a comparison page (/blogs/dedicated-vs-shared-forex-vps-pricing) showing measured slippage differences between budget and trading-grade MT4 VPS.
| Workload | Recommended plan | Approx. terminals |
|---|---|---|
| 1 manual MT4 trader | Challenger | 1–2 terminals |
| Funded-account portfolio (3–5 EAs) | Algo Scalper | 6–10 terminals |
| Multi-broker EA portfolio | Algo Scalper / Portfolio Node | 12–20 terminals |
| Copy-trade originator (signal provider) | Portfolio Node / Syndicate | 25–50 terminals |
